This environment was based on my personal experience with a location I like to walk to often when I am home from college. It's a long-forgotten landfill from around the 50s or 60s going off the labels of the cans and bottles that have since been consumed by nature over time as gorgeous bright, emerald green grass has covered most of the area.
This old landfill is very poetically located directly next to a cemetery which I also visit often, and is how I actually found the spot during a visit where I began wandering along the riverbank. The character I created is a representation of my curiosity for the deceased and forgotten, both organic and inorganic. I especially wanted to highlight the presence of value in what we label as waste, as is evident from the still functioning lamps and fully and partially assembled bass guitars.
The design of the character is inspired by the cryptid called the Fresno Nightcrawlers so I named the ethereal little fella Fresno. His small stature offers a perspective I don't get to experience when I visit this location so I tried to design the setting in a way that looks unfamiliar to me but makes sense as an explorable environment for something the size of a mouse.
